Our love of sport fishing combined with a deep appreciation of our ecology and natural resources always makes for an exciting and interesting trip. Tybee Island Charters has the reputation of service to our customers and bringing back great catches and wonderful memories. Fishing with Capt. Cecil and Elizabeth is like fishing with an old friend. Let us tell you about our rich coastal heritage as we help you explore, discover and fish the waters surrounding the barrier islands of coastal Georgia.
Captain Cecil R. Johnson Jr., one of the founders of Tybee Island Charters , has loved boats and water since he was a young boy. For the last twenty-five years, Cecil has lived the dream of fishing, boats, and water: literally launching Tybee Island Charters in 1985. Born in North Carolina with parents from Savannah and grandma's at Tybee, Cecil spent his vacations from when he was in diapers through college on the beaches and waters of Tybee.
In 1982, after marrying Elizabeth, they settled on the island that had always been dear to him. A fortunate meeting with Captain Charlie Walsh, a Charter Boat Captain of 40 some odd years, resulted in Cecil becoming his mate. Training under Captain Charlie, Cecil strived to soak up his knowledge, fishing experience, and jovial attitude toward the sport and customers. Cecil has the reputation of service to the customers and bringing back good memories and nice catches. Every trip with Captain Cecil is like fishing with an old friend. |
Capitan Elizabeth was born in Iowa. She met Cecil in Atlanta in the late 1970's. During their dating years, with many trips to visit Cecil's family members at Tybee, she also developed a love of the island and the unbelievable beauty of the nature around it. Also training under the wings of Captain Charlie Walsh, Elizabeth with her strong and enthusiastic personality is known as a people pleaser. Elizabeth began working full time for Tybee Island Charters in 1989.
Her love of the sport of fishing combined with a deep appreciation of our ecology and natural resources always makes for an exciting and interesting trip. Elizabeth, like Cecil, helps to put everyone at ease and keeps the customers catching fish. One of her favorite sayings, "first time fishermen and women always catch the big fish", tends to hold true. |
